The First Black President of the United States

So I'm trying not to be much of a political person, but this is a very historic moment. The 44th president of the United States will be an African American. Our country has had made some huge steps in the past, but this is truly a landmark. There are still people alive who can draw back to slavery, and imagine how they feel to finally have a black president. Even if you are a McCain supporter you have to see the triumph there. There are few times when I will say that I am proud to be an American, but one of those times is right now...

Let us keep future President Barack Obama in our prayers. He's going to have some mind blowing challenges to face. It's going to be a hard job, and he will never be able to do it on his own strength.

Check out his historic victory speech in hometown Chicago, it's breathtaking...

I hate politics. There. I got that out of the way. So now on to my opinion. :o)

I was not passionate about either candidate this year and I really did struggle with which candidate to vote for. Both had positive issues and negative issues. I finally decided on voting Republican for a few reasons, the biggest being concern with a Super Democrat Government.

That said, I agree with you. This is historical and frankly, I can't believe people would or wouldn't vote for a candidate based on race or gender. And now that Obama is the president I will support him and pray for him the same way I would have for McCain.

And now - I'm so happy all this stuff is over with!! No more stupid phone calls and commercials. :o)

I agree with everything Jen said. I had a few more reasons for voting Republican but I won't get into them here.
This is historic and I, too, will pray that Obama can do great things for our nation.
Noe instead of political commercials, we can get started with the Christmas commercials!Yeah!

Well I agree with both of you! woo hoo!

Almost all of the polls however stated that for 95% of people, race wasn't an issue (which I don't really believe)

I personally did not vote for Obama (and not the rest of the positions) because of his race. As a young person there were a whole bunch of reasons that are no ones business that earned my vote.

BUT ALL OF THAT SAID, it is still a very awesome thing to see this historic event. Just seeing the global celebration that is going on is incredible in itself.

I think I just read something that Kenya made yesterday a national holiday? hah.

Very exciting times. I'm VERY glad it's over.

I'm not sure praying for him would do anything, did not christ specifically avoid the politics of man when he walked on the earth. Did He not order us to do what needs to be done, no matter what the law of man says, why would god change his mind now and start interfering with the politics of man?

Well you raise some interesting questions Andrew, but I think you slightly missed the mark.

I think it is a severe misinterpretation to say that God is not involved in Politics. God is involved in the lives of every Christian, including those that will be leading our country in Politics.

We read in Romans 13 " Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."

Christ avoided the politics of his time because what he was doing transcended simple politics with it's hedge laws and what not.

I wouldn't doubt for a second that the many times Christ was alone or among the lawmakers and pharisees that those were the exact people he was praying for.

Many times we pray before meals. We thank God for his provision and for his protection.

Yet we don't think that we need to pray for the same politicians that are the very people responsible for our provision and protection though God.

I would truly avoid ever saying that praying for something won't do anything.

i didn't mean that i wouldn't pray for him as a person, i was just saying that i didn't think it would help our nation that much, but paul said otherwise in the book of timothy so sorry bout that
